SITU 99
E-CONFERENCE
Moderators:
Miguel Holle PhD. CIP/CONDESAN Eng. Ana Maria Ponce, The
topic of In-Situ germplasm conservation has captured a lot of attention during the past
few years. Some scientists believe that InSitu conservation will be complement efficiently
the efforts for ex-situ conservation, others doubt it. Several colleagues from the Andean
region and abroad are working on this research topic. The scope of the conference is global. We wish to extend our base of participants helping them to improve their connectivity during the E-Conference. We will select some special cases that will require support to connect from remote rural regions, and we will try to provide technical support to facilitate their participation. a) Describe specific experiences in the field about aspects related to in-situ conservation, emphasizing cases of agrobiodiversity conservation of germplasm performed by farmers. The description should include the socio-economic context: cultivars and its varieties, production types, seed flow and marketing, usage, etc. b) Evaluate in a critical way the methodology of monitoring the temporal and spacial dynamics of phytogenetics under in-situ conditions. c) Discuss aspects related to a) y b); and d) Publish the results of the workshop in electronic and/or printed form. The in-situ conservation cases that were presented, the methodological articles and some discussion papers that were presented in the previous InSitu95 and InSitu97 E-Conferences confirm the core of our program. The abstracts of the InSitu95 E-Conference articles are http://www.condesan.org/Biodiver/ /InSitu/insit95s.htm The abstracts of the InSitu97 E-Conference articles are available at URL: http://www.condesan.org/Biodiver/ /InSitu/insit97lib.htm LANGUAGES: Summaries in English and Spanish will be accepted. Articles written in English will have a Spanish summary and vice-versa. 1. The organizers will circulate summaries of the articles to all the participants the first day of each work between November 3rd and December 20th, according to the program. During each week, the participants can send their comments or questions to: InfoAndina@cgiar.orgThe comments and questions will be compiled and circulated among all participants at the end of each week. 2. The meeting will take place between November 3rd and December 20th, 99. We will try to edit and publish the memories of the E-Conference.
