Some comments to Carlos Venegas and Miguel Altiery article:

The agriculture authorities and the farmers of Chiloe, were   those who introduced the North American and European  varieties into the Islands. New introduced pathogens and  the reduction of the economic importance of the ancient  local varieties, caused to their distinction.

The scientist of today, who launched a campaign to re-identify, select and conserve the old genetic material, are  the ones who deserve the honor for their efforts.

The traditional valuable genetic material found today,  should serve the scientists all over the world to improve  and generate new potato varieties for he benefit of the  human being everywhere.

Algunos comentarios a Carlos Venegas y Miguel Altieri

Las autoridades agricolas y los agricultores de Chiloe fueron quienes intordujeron las variedades norte  americanas y europeas en las islas. Los patogenos introducidos y la reduccion de la importancia economica de las variedades locales causaron su extincion

Los cientificos de hoy quienes impulsaron una campaña para re identificar, seleccionar y conservar el material  genetico antiguo son quienes merecen el honor por sus esfuerzos.

El valioso material genetico tradicional encontrado hoy,  debe servir a los cientificos de todo el mundo para mejorar y generar nuevas variedades de papa para el beneficio de la humanidad.
